The Golf Resort La Gruyère is a complex incorporating a 5-star hotel and spa, luxury residences and a remodelled golf course. The project aims to place La Gruyère on the world map of prestigious luxury tourist destinations. The centrepoint of the project is the construction of a five-star hotel, Alila La Gruyère, designed by AW². The hotel will include 85 rooms, 27 hotel residences, a 3000 sqm wellness spa and three restaurants. The challenge of this project was to insert the programme in a preserved natural environment bordered by La Gruyère lake. We incorporated the site constraints into the design strategy. The height of the project, for example, was dictated by the existing buildings on the site. The design seamlessly integrates the terrain, creating an architecture of terraces that emulate the topography. We adopted this design strategy of sculpting the landscape with a project that does not impose itself on the surrounding natural environment. The interweaving of the architecture on the site was studied to create exceptional views on every level, whilst maintaining a respectful design that resonates with the locality.
